America

November 25, 2015 by Amelia

For the Past 3 weeks my family and I traveled to the other side of the world to America for a Family Holiday and so my mum could participate in the New York.

My trip begun with a 15 hour flight to LA. We spent the next 3 days in LA to see the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and the Hollywood Sign and many other sights famous sights of LA. We stayed at a highly recommended hotel by our uncle as they had big roomy rooms the pool was nice and warm and they had a Popsicle Hotline (so you could order your FREE icy Poles to be freshly delivered to the pool for you) The hotels name was Magic Castle. We finished our visit in LA at universal Studios this was a amazing place to go to as they had many rides and attractions.

Next we got on another plane this time to Orlando, Florida. Florida was just like I thought it would be only less people and houses, it was a bit sticky and humid but pretty much perfect swimming whether. In Orlando we went to Magic kingdom Disney Land it was a day full of magic, mystery and walking my favorite part of Disney Land were the Fireworks, they were amazing as they lit up the night sky.

At Universal Studios in Orlando ( yes we went again this time for the rides ) I got over my fear of riding upside down roller coasters by riding The Dragons Challenger ( the picture is of the ride ). Also at Universal Studios My sister and i got Thing 1 and Thing 2 tee shirts (i was Thing 2)

I visited many small place’s across America such as ; Sullivan’s Island, Amelia Island, Savanna Georgia and Charleston. I finished my trip in New York, we visited many sights in New York like; The Empire State Building, Central Park, Uptown, Downtown, Midtown, Times square, The World Trade Center and plenty more. The final Leg of our trip was supporting my mum as she ran in the New York Marathon, a Marathon that usually takes years of going into  the ballet to get in, but my mum got in on the first year and she was so excited, that was her 6th marathon and she decided to take it slow so she could see the sights.  She ran it in 4h and 46m I think.

Overall my trip to America was very exciting and I know i’ll be doing it again.

My Holidays!

October 12, 2015 by Amelia

This Holidays was one to here about, filled with plenty of laughs, good times and stories.

On the first Tuesday my sister and i flu to Queensland to stay with our Grandparents for a week or so. On the first day, Wednesday, We went to Movie World It was lots of fun and kinda scary. We also visited WetnWild and Sea world I think I enjoyed WetnWild The most because I went on most water slides.

We also went to the beach it was really warm and perfect swimming weather unfortunately I forgot my bathers one time but I still had a great time. I also went to the DFO near Brisbane and it was amazing I bought a few things and enjoyed it too.

one of the funny stories of my trip was when I lined up for the aqua loop water slide, at WetnWild, and it was my turn to get weighed for the ride ,because if you where to light you would get stuck in the water slide, so  when I got weighed I was 8 Kilos too light and the man said come back later but only if you have a big lunch I was so disappointed because i was like the only person who lined up for something I couldn’t ride.

Overall my holiday to Queensland was really fun and I will ensure to do it again!

Jim Martin

September 2, 2015 by Amelia

He was sent to Gallipoli when he was 18 but he was given notice at 14. His name was Jim Martin. The Ship that Jim sailed on was sunk on the way to Gallipoli, he was one of the lucky Ones who was saved by a fellow soldier. He got very sick in Gallipoli and was sent to a Hospital ship but died and buried at sea. Jim Martin may only have been one soldier but everyone makes a difference.

Today we read “One minute silence”  . . .

I found the book very touching and it really captured what it was like in World War 1, I could picture the bullets lashing the soldiers and the sounds of endless gunfire, The constant bombs exploding and you could see thee terror in the soldiers eyes. I definitely recommend reading this book.

Immigration Museum

August 14, 2015 by Amelia

Today the senior students went to the Immigration Museum. We participated in three different activities.

We did note taking in the Identity Exposition.  I learnt  . . . . .

  • Our Identity is how we present ourselves to the world.

  •  People have different markings that make them, them it shows other people that they a unique in there own kind of way. Different hairstyles, piercings and even the color of our skin, tattoos and birthmarks all help to announce the membership of a group and or faith.

  • What we eat can also help distinguish our culture. We all eat different things and I guess that’s what makes us, us, But just because we eat different things, and look different, we are all one big family under Gods wing.

That’s a few of my notes I took  in my book.

Next we went and collected our passports, by the way they were fake ones that we could fill in with information, we explored the custom house and discovered how long The Indigenous Australians have been here compared to how long since the white invasion. Around 250 years ago the White settlers arrived in Botany Bay, Now known as Sydney Harbor NSW, But 4000 years ago is on average how long the Aboriginals have been here.

Finally we went for a walk outside seeing what things have changed since the past. We visited several places, one being The Queen Bridge Hotel we noticed how there were no buildings around the hotel on the picture we had but now that’s about all you can see building here, buildings absolutely everywhere.

So Melbourne has changed since the past dramatically and it would be easy to play a game  of spot two pictures of Melbourne now, Melbourne then. Immigration has become a huge part of Melbourne history and what is still shaping what Melbourne will be like in the future. I definitely recommend going to the Melbourne Immigration Museum

The History Of Clocks

August 6, 2015 by Amelia

This week for homework we also had to research the history of clocks and learn about different types of clocks. I learnt . . .

  • Digital Clocks

  • Braille Clocks

  • Talking Clocks

  • Long-case Clocks

  • Mantel Clocks

  • Cuckoo Clocks

  • Lantern Clocks

  • Electric Clocks

  • Mechanical Clocks

  • Crystal Clocks

  • Atomic Clocks

  • Radio Clocks

History of clocks:

In the 13th century, Al-Jazari, an engineer from Mesopotamia  made numerous clocks of all shapes and sizes. I think  that clocks have changed since the past by, there are now many more types of clocks like the ones above, also clocks have gotten more sophisticated and they have more add-ons such as; alarms,  touch screen ability and you say stop the alarm will stop, all of this  contained in a tiny clock.

My Holiday

July 26, 2015 by Amelia

This holiday was not one to brag about, it was pretty laid back. My parents both had work so me and my sister stayed home most days.

Some days my sister and I would walk up to forest hill to have a look around. One night my mum, sister and I went to the movies to watch Jurassic World, I definitely recommend this movie for dinosaur lovers.

One day Stephanie and I went to Forest Hill to watch Minions it was great I definitely recommend this movie.

I think my favourite thing I did on the Holiday was . . . . . . Sleeping in, yes I know probably not to active but it was really good.

That’s what I did on my holidays, What did you do?

My story

June 24, 2015 by Amelia

This is my narrative Enjoy:)

April The Apricot

April and Pippa the pip, April’s best friend, were off for their usual morning stroll. While they walked, they would pop into each one of the Mushrooms, known as the Mushys, houses to drop the fresh lamingtons April baked every morning for them. Everyone loved April’s lamingtons, the mushys would always compliment her like, “Yum April, these are delicious,”  or  ,”M M M, these lamingtons are award winning”. April was a sweet, young, cute, friendly, caring, bubbly and round little girl, every mushy, especially Master Mush, the carer of all, loved her. She was their true best friend. April did have a dark dark past, which she dares to speak of. But I’ll tell you, when she was 1, April’s parents, Bob and Matilda, were picked off the bush and turned into jam at the Apricot jam factory. When they were picked, April fell off, April’s Father, Bob, yelled,” April RUN!” April ran for Five minutes until she found the forest, where she was taken in by the Mushys and ever since she has been living there.

April feared that she too would be found and turned into jam. This was her greatest fear. But luckily for her, the master mush said ,”I’ll take care of you.”

One day April woke up to a great loud noise. They were searching the forest for apricots. It was Mr Colopesticolotion. Mr Colopesticolotion was a mean, cruel and unfair man, he wanted more + more + more + more +  more +  more + more + more every single day. Master Mush came storming in and said,” Follow me !”so April followed after. Master Mush lead April down a secret passageway. While they walked down, Master Mush suddenly stopped and said ,”I have a plan, keep following  the passageway, I will build a fence and  the other mushys will save all the other apricots, ok?” . “OK”, said April and off they went. Two hours had passed and then the humans were gone so every mushy went and got to work on building the fence. Every mush was in positions building a fence, they worked together as one to achieve the ultimate goal, of building a fence across the entrance to the woods. The mushys had one more wire and straw thread to go, as all the mushys rushed all the apricots to the forest, Master Mush called ,”All the strong mushys pull the ropes!” and suddenly the gate rolled up like a garage door closing and all the mushys and apricots were safe and sound in the forest. Master Mush yelled to all , “Thank you fellow mushys for all your support! We have now finished and achieved our goal, we have saved all the apricots.” Suddenly a young mushy said that there is no longer light, then April butted in saying, “Yes there is!” and pulled a lever and the bushes opened up a hole in the top of all the plants and trees.

Everybody cheered aloud and said three cheers for April, they all yelled ,”Hip hip hooray! hip hip hooray!” April was crowned the most cheerful apricot all round. This was the new beginning for all the mushys and apricots and everybody continued in their brilliant life.

Audit + Term 2 Reflection Of My Blog

June 24, 2015 by Amelia

My blog has been up for about a year now and I’ve been collecting posts, comments, pages, lots of things. Here are some of the information I have found :

Answers= A         Questions= Q

  • How many posts have you written? : 37 posts in all a lot but not that much

  • How many were school based, your own interests or set by the challenge? : school based- About 18. My own interests- 1. Challenge based- 19

  • How many comments did you receive from classmates, teachers or overseas students?: Overseas students- 0. Classmates- 9 Teachers – 16

  • Which post received the most comments? Why do you think that happened?: My Project On Saturn -5 because I decided to do something for myself to teach others and I think that people really enjoyed that

MY  TERM 2 REFLECTION

Term 2. The middle of the year, I cant believe how fast this year has been and how far my classmates and I have come. This terms inquiry topic was “Why Justice” and I think that this topic really has opened our eyes  into the minds of others and to think like the less fortunate, to be strong believers of what we believe is true and stand for what is right.

This happened to be the term we made our confirmation which ties in just right with our inquiry topic of Justice. We have been learning heaps about confirmation  like the 7 gifts of the spirit and how to make the right decisions to guide us on the right path to for fill our faith in God and to be followers of Jesus like the 12 disciples once did. The 7 gifts of the spirit are Right Judgement, Understanding, Reverence, Wisdom, courage, Wonder And Awe and Knowledge.

The art that  we did this term was amazing. We all  created fabulous art that is worth seeing in the gallery, some of the art pieces we did this term were Graffiti, Caricatures, Zentangles, silhouette trees and Zentangles with colour and shaped as something from nature. This terms art was very fun and I think everyone  enjoyed the art too and I think I did some of my best art pieces as well. In maths we did some new things and some revision too, some of the topics are Area + Perimeter, Volume and Capacity, angles, negative numbers  and mapping.

Overall this term has  been a stand out and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
